MATHEMATICSStudents were all hands-on for the Math-ICT-Art Integration, creating Means of Communication and Transport using digital tools for Tangrams/Cubes/Geoboards. Students learnt Like and Unlike Fractions and worked on Comparing, Adding/Subtracting Like Fractions. Furthermore, they understood how to identify Proper/ Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers. They learnt how to visually understand using diagrammatical representations of fractions, made notes and watched videos to related Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers. They also learnt how to convert Improper fractions to Mixed fractions and vice-versa and practiced questions related to the same. Introduction to the concept of Decimals was observed by students' input, videos, real life examples and related explanation. Young learners developed an understanding of Decimals by relating them to their prior knowledge and real life situations. Their understanding took another leap when they worked on converting Fractions with denominators 10 and 100 to Decimals. Students worked on the Shin Edu Activity-page 6, honing their observation skills and imagination to identify and complete the given patterns with coloured cubes. SCIENCEThe month started with the Science & Visual art integration activities where students observed the effect of force by making a working model of catapult and also learnt how energy can be produced with a paper pinwheel. Further, the learners were assessed on their previous knowledge of different states of matter and their physical properties. Later they learnt about some more properties of states of matter. To enhance their understanding they were introduced to soluble and insoluble substances. Reinforcement of the concept was done by asking the students to pick various household items and categorize them as either soluble or insoluble. Understanding the process of Sedimentation, Decantation and Filtration was done through hands-on experimentation to understand how the substances separate from water. SOCIAL STUDIESCh.12 Our Natural Resources Concept Initiation was done by asking students to identify the objects in their house which are made of natural resources. They made a long list of objects which are obtained from natural resources and are used by them every day. They were thrilled to understand the importance and usage of the natural resources in their lives. Further explanation was carried out using a flow chart and students were able to categorize the natural resources into exhaustible and non-exhaustible categories. Based on the discussion students were able to share examples under both the categories. Students also discussed the importance of conservation of resources and the emphasis given to SDG in our life. To strengthen the concept, worksheet 6 from the SDG book ‘Be The Change’ corresponding to SDG Goal 7-Clean and Affordable energy was done in the class. Ch.15-Water Resources of India To understand the importance of water as an important resource, the task for the students was to imagine a day without water and the problems they will face. Followed by a class discussion, they watched videos to understand the various sources of water that are available to us. They also learnt about ground water dams and drainage of water as part of class discussion. As an inspirational story, the story of waterman of India, Dr. Rajendra Singh was discussed with students. This made them realise how even a small step makes huge difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nYs-GD9aoo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFwoc81Nzys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwWPwwU5EUg ICT“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” In the festive mood of November, the students learnt some of the unique features of MS PowerPoint. They implemented it by creating the banners in a slide with beautiful quotations on ‘Importance of Education’. The motive behind that was to pay tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birthday for being the first education minister of free India. The students further learnt several components of PowerPoint and created the presentation based on the seasons of India. ENGLISHThe learning this month was initiated by probing the children about famous bridges across the world and motivating them to speak about a bridge that they have heard or come across. The concept of Bridge and the science of constructing the same were discussed in an interactive session. The concept of homonyms was interpreted through Unit 10-Books About Bridges. The students learnt how to write an effective paragraph using various strategies. The stock of words with ‘sure, ture, ous, ious, eous’ was strengthened with a fun lesson of word formation and framing sentences with new found words. The learning was continued by revisiting the concept of Prepositions with the help of different videos and discussion of various practice exercises. Consolidated written work was also done in the notebook for different types of prepositions—prepositions of place, time and movement including practice on live-worksheets. With a view to improve the reading and understanding skills of the young learners, a reading comprehension from Nelson Pupil Book Unit 3 Chinese Play was shared as a practice.
